ISLAMABAD, May 14 (APP):Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) and National News Agency (NNA) Lebanon on Monday inked memorandum to expand cooperation in the sphere of information exchange.
The basic objective of the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) is to promote collection and distribution of accurate, useful and objective news, with a view to facilitate better understanding between peoples of the respective countries.
Managing Director, Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), Masood Ahmed Malik signed the MoC on behalf of APP on second day of the International Conference of News Agencies (ICNA) held here by APP. Laure Sleiman, General Director National News Agency (NNA) of Lebanon signed the MoC on behlf of her organization.
Under the MoC, the objectives are to affirm establishment of friendly relations and fruitful cooperation in the sphere of mass media that serves interests of the parties and to expand cooperation in the sphere of information exchange based on equality and mutual respect and benefit.
Both the organizations agreed to provide each other with their news services about current events of interest of internal and international life of their countries in English through means of communication free of charge.
The countries shall co-operate under this MoC in conformity with their national laws and international agreements.
Under no circumstances the facts’ contents and intent of received news will be changed. The respective news agencies are entitled to edit each other’s news they receive without distorting the original meanings.
The parties will be free to distribute the received news services by all means on territories of their countries with obligatory reference to source of information.
The parties will closely cooperate in organization and maintenance of information support of visits of Heads of State, official delegations of their countries as well as other interstate activities and events held on their territories.
The parties will also provide each other’s journalists and press photographers accredited on territory of their countries with organizational assistance when those carry out their professional activities.
The parties may exchange banners (interactive references) on web portals, websites and other possible information resources which belong to the parties on term of the regular, equal and free exchange.
Each party may place logo of the other party on the main page of its website with reference to website of the party. Disagreements in interpretation or application of provisions of present MOC between the parties will be solved through consultations or negotiations through diplomatic channels.
